Sain Winner of 5th 'Bucket'
Jim Sain is the winner of the Fifth Annual Coal Bucket Award given at Maple Street each laity Sunday to a member of the church who has demonstrated unselfish commitment, giving of their talents and service, usually in unnoticed ways, for the betterment of the church and the glory of Jesus Christ. Jim was named the winner by Erston and Buckalew, 2003 winners. The winner of the bucket chooses the next winner. If for some reason a winner is unable to select a new winner, the choice is that of the pastor.
The Coal Bucket Award was started in 2000 by Pastor Don Meadows in an effort to recognize the contributions to the laity to the ministries of the church. The bucket is a bronze coal bucket, accompanied by a bronze ash shovel. The bucket remains in the trophy case, but the shovel is kept at home by the winner for one year, then passed on. Both have permanent engravings of the winners.

1. Jim is congratulated by Betty and Erston during the worship service Oct. 17, 2004
2. Betty presents Jim the Ash Shovel, which he keeps for one year,
3. Dewey Ringhiser and some members of his band, The Rhythm Drifters, share Jim's special day. Jim and Ringhiser have been friends for years, and play many a country music concert. Dewey once wrote that Jim Sain was "one of the two most important men in my life." Than's Dewey for being there!
4. Jim is greeted by members of the congregation following the service. Betty and Erston were among the first in line.
5. A flower arrangement in Jim's honor was presented. Note the miniature washboard -- one of the "instruments" Jim uses to bring joy into the hearts of people. Besides using it for years with concerts with Dewey, Jim "plays" the washboard with Pastor Don the last Sunday of each month at two services at a local nursing home. Pam White, step-daughter of Jim, sang two songs of praise and joined Jim in the day of festivities. At right, she sings.
