BeachTrek Vacation Bible School will conclude with a pool party at Tiki Pool July 19th, from 8:30 pm to 11. If you have questions, contact Kelly Craiglow or Renee Long.

See Page 2 for more details and ways you can help with this year’s exciting Vacation Bible School.

2002 — Year of the Ladies

Last year, it was the Year of the Guys in the Montanye Family. This year, the ladies showed they, too, can fly kites. Courtney Montanye, right, won the "Fly High for Jesus" award at the 4th annual Maple Street Kite Regatta on May 19th.

With help from her mom, Joy, her kite was up about 1/4th of a mile. Her name will be engraved on the permanent trophy kept at the church.

Vacation Bible School is a team effort. We need YOU on the team. . Here are some areas where you can help.
1. Register children Sunday and Monday evening. We need one person to oversee this table for Tuesday

2. Chaperones — Take children at correct times from the Fellowship Hall (meal) to the Sanctuary - Lesson

the focus on the speaker or the music teacher.
3. Dinner — Assist Ruth Boyer in all areas, including cooking, serving and cleanup.
4. Lessons — Help Sandy Williams or Marianne Jackson in any area needed.
5. Crafts — Assist Sue Mendell in area needed.
6. Toddlers — “I would like to be the pre-school teacher for the entire week. However, I am still looking
for assistants who would be able to be there every night to take over if I am needed elswhere.” — Kelly
Craiglow.
7. Nursery — I am not sure how many infants will be in the nursery.
8. Adult Class — Again, we need anyone who is interested in teaching this class to let Kelly know.
9. Pray — We need lots of prayer before, during and after VBS.

Conkey Now An Eagle Scout

An Eagle Scout Court of Honor was held May 19 at Maple Street United Methodist Church for Eric Conkey. Family, friends, and troop members recognized Eric for his accomplishments leading up to the completion of scouting’s highest honor. Congratulations to Eric and his family on this outstanding achievement!

On Saturday, May 11 Troop 106 completed a 5.2-mile hike at Clear Creek Metro Park in Logan, Ohio. The hike will assist Scouts Jake LaRue, Josh LaRue, Greg Johnson, Jeremy Baughman, and Kevin Searfoorce in completing requirements toward advancement. Following the hike, the Troop attended a primitive fire-making workshop led by park staff. The staff demonstrated techniques on fire building skills using flint and steel, and the bow method. Each scout and adult leader had an opportunity to try their hand at these fire-making techniques. Everyone was successful with at least one of the two methods, however we were all thankful for our stoves and microwaves at home! Thank you to Scout Master Wayne LaRue for organizing the event and Laura Searfoorce for assistance on the hike.

Troop 106 is preparing for scout camp which will be held June 16 – 22 at the Muskingum Valley Scout Reservation. The scouts have selected merit badges that they will be completing during the week, and are looking forward to the adventures that scout camps offers.

Worship Committee Asks:

Can You Help ?

Please remember to sign the blue attendance pads each Sunday. After you have signed the pads, please pass them along to the other people in your pew. This enables us to follow-up on the needs of our church family and guests. Thank you for your assistance.

Reaching Out

"Our biblical act of worship is not what we do on Sunday mornings in coats and ties, but our act of worship is a lifelong, seven-days-a-week process of placing ourselves upon an altar of sacrifice. Worship is living the principles of Christ in everything we do. You’re worshiping God by what you do all week long." When you take food to the poor, that’s an act of worship. When you give a word of kindness to someone who needs it, that’s an act of worship. We’re in a fast-moving, fast-paced society. We need to build bridges between our hearts and those people we see who need a friend–and allow Jesus to cross that bridge of friendship and walk into their hearts." (Max Lucado, General Editor, The Inspirational Bible)

We have many wonderful opportunities for reaching out to others simply by inviting our friends and families to one or more of our Maple Street programs. Our Sunday evening Praise Service is a chance to share God’s love in a casual setting. Our Sunday evening services consist of a great deal of praise music and a brief message from Pastor Meadows. The entire Praise Team assists in offering God his praise through thoughtful scripture and song. Please join us on Sunday evenings at 6:30 pm.

Another important tool for reaching out is Maple Street’s web site at www.maplestreetumc.org. The site has up-to-date information about the church including a prayer request list. There are also links to the United Methodist Church and other informative sites. Be sure to add Maple Street’s web site address to your list of favorites and pass the address along to your friends. - Judy Norris - chair of Worship Team

KITE REGATTA WINNERS — Sponsored by the United Methodist Men, winners on May 19 were, front from left) Hannah Chappelear, first crash; Courtney Montanye, highest kite; Liz Nixon, laziest pilot; Catherine Amiet, youngest pilot; Chelsey Long, best Bible theme; (back) Jacob Chaffin, smallest kite; Ethan Russell, largest kite; Jim Russell, oldest pilot and Jessica Russell, best homemade kite. Members of the United Methodist Youth Fellowship handled judging chores, and thanks to Shawn Hinkle for organizing this year’s event. Approximately 28 kites were flown during the day at the soccer field on East Main Street. Last year’s high flier, Davey Montanye, broke his string and his kite went sailing over the mountains.

Old Mission Church
Trip Will be June 22-23

The trip to Old Mission Church in Upper Sandusky is June 22-23. We hope to have a good number going this year. This will be the third straight year a group has gone to Old Mission Church, the first missions project on the North American Continent by the Methodist Church. We will spend the night of the 22nd at the Wharton United Methodist Church, conduct the 8 a.m. service at the Old Mission Church and return to Wharton, where pastor Don will also preach at the morning service. Costs will be $10 per person, or $20 per family — to purchase food. Everyone will be on their own for lunch on Sunday, June 23.

The next sewing day clothes for children at Grace Children’s Hospital in Haiti is June 1, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. All are welcome to help sew, cut patterns, iron fabrics, or donate fabrics, thread, seam binding, or other sewing notions.

On April 26 the Missions Team served the meal for the United Methodist Men’s Banquet, earning $172.25.

The next 2 Cents a Meal Offering will be received during Worship on June 30. One-half of the offering helps with our Wednesday Community Meal and the rest goes to the West Ohio Conference for hunger projects it supports.

The Missions team will have a bake sale at the Farmers’ Market in July. The exact date will be announced later. We need baked goods from our church family to make this a successful fund raiser for our Church’s mission

Clean-Up!

Sue Mendell (outside) and Judy McGath wash windows May 11 during the "Take-Pride in Maple Street Day" cleaning, held by the trustees. More than a dozen workers showed up, according to Trustee Chair Rick Combs, and there will be more opportunities to participate, he said. The grounds were cleaned, windows washed, curtains taken down to be washed, mulch put down, and a lot of other things. Spurg Fosnaugh and Kathy served lunch to all the volunteers. Thanks to all who helped.
